Peterborough Arts Festival – City Centre Performances announced for Sunday 8 July
A programme of city centre performance to replace the cancelled Finale weekend of the Peterborough Arts Festival has been announced.
The Finale weekend at Peterborough’s Central Park was cancelled earlier today due to the impact of weather conditions which led to concerns over the site safety.
This evening, Festival organisers have announced that a small scale programme of street theatre will take place tomorrow, Sunday 8 July, in the city centre. This will include a number of performers who were scheduled to have performed at tomorrow’s event.
Greer Roberts, Arts Services Manager for Vivacity who organise the Festival, said that the earlier decision had been a very difficult one to make:
‘We are incredibly disappointed to have had to cancel our Festival Finale weekend. Unfortunately, after an earlier site inspection, and consultation with Enterprise and an external site safety consultant, we had to make this very difficult decision. The current conditions in the park, particularly in the backstage area, meant that access in and out of certain areas was impossible, and the predicted weather forecast indicated worsening conditions for Sunday We are determined to end on a positive note however, and we are delighted to we have managed to transfer a small part of the programme to Bridge Street for Sunday afternoon, and we hope that people will join us to enjoy at least part of the Festival – we are likely to be dodging the showers, but we are determined to try and put on at least some performances whatever the weather.’
The performances will take place between 12noon and 4pm in Bridge Street, subject to weather conditions, and are free of charge.
